The 9/11 Flag Football League recently held its championship games for its Inter School divisions at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.
When all was said and done, PS 58 and PS 56 walked away with crowns in their respective age groups.
PS 58 copped the 3rd-to-5th-grade crown, while PS 56 took the 1st-and-2nd grade championship.
“The kids and parents loved playing at the FerryHawks stadium with its great view of the New York City skyline,” said 9/11 president Mike Fidanza. “The kids felt like they were professionals. They were excited to be announced as they came out from the dugouts to take the field where they were greeted by family and friends. The smile on their faces said it all.”

Each team was recently presented with the Principal Philip J. Carollo Memorial Trophy, named after the late principal of PS 56, who passed away at the age of 49 in March. The Tottenville husband and father of two was described as a man who woke up every day and loved his job and seeing his students.
“He was loved by so many people so I decided since the NFL has the Vince Lombardi trophy, I wanted the 9-11 Flag Football Inter School Championship Trophy to be named the Principal Philip J. Carollo Memorial Trophy to honor this extraordinary man who touched the lives of thousands,” explained Fidanza.
PS 58 Assistant Principal Lori O’Connor accepted the trophy and posed with her school’s winning team, while PS 56 Principal Brandon Chall accepted the trophy and posed with the school’s winning squad.

Wagner College hoopster gets special invite
Wagner College men’s basketballer Jahbril Price Noel has received an invitation to training camp with the Canadian U23 National Team in preparation for this year’s GLOBL JAM tournament.
The Scarborough, Ontario native appeared in 17 games in his first year on Grymes Hill, averaging 21.7 minutes per game and earning seven starts during the 2021-22 season.
A versatile guard, Price Noel scored in double figures three times despite having his season cut short due to injury. Price Noel earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration from Wagner College in 2022 and will return to Wagner for the 2022-23 season.
Set to take place in Toronto from July 5-10, GLOBL JAM will shine the international spotlight on the game’s rising stars and feature women’s and men’s teams from around the world competing in an Under-23 tournament at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Recognized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the GLOBL JAM men’s and women’s tournaments will feature two pools of four teams, respectively.
