A family-run gym has permanently closed after 26 years due to fuel, energy and other cost increases. Westside Health Club on West Street, Stamford, placed a notice on their door informing customers of the closure, with the liquidation of the company expected to happen on Monday, October 10.
In the statement, Simon Dale, company director, shared how they tried to explore all possibilities to keep the gym going but just couldn't afford it. He said: "This is deeply upsetting for us as a family.
"We haven't arrived here easily – we've given our all and tried to explore every other avenue to avoid this, but in the current economic climate with unprecedented increases in fuel, energy and many other costs, meant as things stand it is no longer viable to continue." According to Stamford Mercury, Mr Dale also thanked staff and customers for their support over the years.

A local personal training and fitness business, Lykos Fitness, shared their sadness at Westside's closure in a statement on social media. A spokesperson said: "I have never personally trained there, but always heard good things and clients of mine were members and I even taught the odd class there over the years.
"For years it’s stood the test of time and the setup inspired a lot of others gyms locally. This just comes to show the impact the cost of living is having on our community."
The building is shared with three other businesses including Vicki's Hairdressers, Luscious Lox and The Harmony Rooms who are all still seeing clients as usual.
