Lionel Messi's fitness to be evaluated before Benfica clash – Get French Football News – Get French Football News

Paris Saint-Germain will take on Benfica in a Champions League group-stage match on Tuesday evening. However, there remain concerns over the fitness of talisman Lionel Messi.
According to what is reported by L’Équipe, Messi’s fitness will be evaluated in a fitness test on Monday ahead of the Champions League clash against the Portuguese side. Messi missed PSG’s 0-0 draw against Reims on Saturday due to a muscle overload in his calf.
As confirmed by PSG boss Christophe Galtier after the match, Neymar was also suffering from fatigue and thus could not make the starting XI at the weekend. The report suggests that both Messi and Neymar could start the game for the reigning Ligue 1 champions on Tuesday.
Since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, Messi has played 13 matches across all competitions, having amassed eight goals and eight assists thus far.
On Sunday, there was a sense of positivity around Messi’s chances of getting back to fitness in time for the Benfica game. Yet, he will have to prove his credibility on Monday. Meanwhile, Renato Sanches, Nuno Mendes, and Presnel Kimpembe remain sidelined with their respective injuries.
